Our Priorities

Good Jobs & a Fair Rural Economy

We believe everyone deserves economic security and dignity at work. That means supporting small businesses, family farms, and rural entrepreneurs—not just big corporations. We support fair wages, safe working conditions, the freedom to organize, and policies that keep local dollars in local communities. Dunn County is home to more than 1,500 small businesses and local employers like Royal Credit Union, Anderson Windows, and Mayo Clinic that depend on a strong local workforce.

Affordable, Accessible Child Care

Child care is essential for working parents and employers. Too many families in Dunn County live in a child care desert, especially outside Menomonie, and many centers have long waitlists. The Dunn County Child Care Task Force has identified access to child care as one of the top three economic barriers in our region.

Strong Public Schools & Education

From Menomonie to Elk Mound to Colfax and Boyceville, strong public schools unite our communities. We support fair funding, safe learning environments, and respect for teachers and staff. Voters in Dunn County have repeatedly supported local school referendums because they know strong public schools protect property values and attract families and jobs, however they have also not supported requests for more funding to improve our schools.

Healthy Family Farms & Local Food Systems

Family farms built Dunn County—and they must remain central to our future. We support fair milk prices, antitrust enforcement against corporate monopolies, regenerative agriculture, and local meat processing. Dunn County is home to over 900 family farms, including dozens of grazing dairy farms and direct-market farms that supply local groceries and farmers markets.

Clean Water, Soil & Natural Resources

Clean drinking water and healthy rivers aren’t partisan issues—they're Wisconsin values. We support conservation and practical solutions to nitrates and runoff that protect rural wells. The Hay River and Red Cedar River Watersheds are critical to local farms and recreation but face algae blooms linked to nutrient runoff, making water quality a shared priority.

Affordable, Safe Housing

Working families, young adults, and seniors deserve a safe place to live. Housing costs continue to rise, while available starter homes and rentals are limited. The 2023 Dunn County Housing Study found that the county needs over 1,000 new housing units—including senior housing and workforce rentals—to meet current demand.

Accessible Health Care & Reproductive Freedom

Every person should be able to access care they can afford, close to home—including reproductive health care, mental health services, and addiction recovery. Local families rely on Mayo Clinic Red Cedar, Marshfield Clinic, and Western Dairyland recovery services, but wait times for rural mental health care remain too long.

Free, Fair & Transparent Elections

We believe in democracy where every eligible American—Republican, Democrat, or Independent—has the freedom to vote. That means secure elections and no political interference. Dunn County election clerks and poll workers deliver secure elections in every township, village, and city—with full transparency and accountability.

Climate Action & Clean Energy for Rural Communities

We support locally led climate solutions that lower energy bills, protect farms from extreme weather, and create good jobs in renewable energy. Dunn County farmers are already using soil health practices like cover crops and managed grazing, which improve yields and reduce flooding.

Safe, Welcoming Communities

We believe in neighbors helping neighbors. Public safety includes good schools, strong families, mental health access, and responsive local government. Dunn County is working to expand community-based safety measures, including partnerships between local law enforcement and mental health crisis teams.
